The only sounds you’ll hear are the gentle lapping of the waves and the creaking of the boat’s rigging, creating a peaceful, calming atmosphere that will rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul.

Experience India uniquely and luxuriously – embark on a premium Ganges River Cruise. This grand voyage takes you through India’s heartland over the course of 51 days in unparalleled comfort.

The cruise on MV Ganga Vilas by Antara Cruises is unlike anything else – it is India’s first full-fledged luxury river experience, with all the amenities of an exquisite luxury resort. With India’s rich and diverse landscape as your backdrop, explore India in a way only this river can offer. From India’s bustling cities to its remote villages and exotic wildlife, this cruise ensures you don’t miss a thing.

It will be quite an experience to cruise along the Ganges River, a waterway used for navigation and transportation for thousands of years. India’s river cruise offers a unique journey you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Enjoy freshly prepared meals, luxurious cabins and unparalleled service from the India-trained crew onboard MV Ganga Vilas, already sold out until March 2024.

The journey along the River Ganges onboard MV Ganga Vilas

The river sailing on MV Ganga Vilas begins in Varanasi, India’s spiritual capital, and continues eastwards for Dibrugarh in Assam via Bangladesh. Over the course of 3200 km and 51 days, explore 27 river systems through five states in eastern India. Discover unique wildlife, vibrant cities and ancient monuments along the way. From World Heritage Sites to river ghats and national parks, this is a journey of a lifetime.

Antara Cruises also offers 3- to 8-day journeys, allowing you to tailor your trip based on the time you have. So regardless of the duration of your cruise, you can expect to be entertained and pampered with carefully curated onboard experiences.

Sights along the river system include Kashi, Bodh Gaya, Vikramshila, Patna and Majuli. You will also have the opportunity to cruise through Dhaka in Bangladesh for a unique multinational experience. Marvel at India’s natural diversity as you pass through the Sundarbans and forests of Assam.

What’s onboard MV Ganga Vilas

MV Ganga Vilas is a 62-metre long, 12-metre wide river cruise carrying 36 passengers in 18 luxe suites. It features three decks, butler service, inspired cuisine, wifi, all-inclusive shore excursions, and signature events. With a draft requirement of only 1.4m MV Ganga Vilas can traverse shallow waters, allowing travellers to explore almost all parts of the river. In addition, a high crew-to-guest ratio ensures personalized services, allowing guests to make the most of their luxury river cruise.

The rise of river cruising in India

India’s river cruise industry is beginning to rise, with offerings similar to river cruises found on the Danube, Rhine and Seine. Now travellers can experience a luxurious river cruise on India’s waterways, complete with all the amenities associated with traditional river cruising. At the same time, ten new passenger ship terminals along National Waterway-2 (an 891-kilometre section of the Brahmaputra River) will allow travellers from all around the world to explore and experience the river’s diverse culture.

River tourism offers a sensible way to bring focus and attention to river cleanliness, river safety and river beautification. Moreover, as river tourism grows, it can provide a source of income for local communities living along the riverbanks and will indeed become one of India’s many sought-after experiences in no time.

During a speech in December, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “This will be an unprecedented cruise of its kind in the whole world. It will also be a reflection of the growing cruise tourism (industry) in India.”

India’s Union Port, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal added, “Our rich heritage will get further transcended in the global stage as tourists will be able to experience the spiritual, educational…cultural as well as the richness of the biodiversity of India.”

Kashif Siddiqui, Antara’s director of sales and marketing, told CNN in an interview that the plan is to run the 3,200-km cruise on the Ganges twice a year between October and March when the weather is nice, and the river water is high. Tickets to board the MV Ganga Vilas costs between 4.2 million to 4.5 million rupees or $51,000 to $54,800 per guest.

Antara Cruise’s MV Ganga Vilas is a magnificent river-travel experience that will take you through India in time and style, making it a journey to remember forever. ◼

If you love Disney cruises, you’re going to love the newest, biggest and boldest ship yet – Disney Wish. Setting sail in July 2022, this magnificent vessel will please everyone in your family. With plenty of activities and accommodations for all ages, plus exciting new features never before seen on a Disney cruise ship, Wish is sure to be a wish come true for all who experience her.

The Disney Wish is the newest Disney Cruise Line ship, infused with more storytelling than ever. Disney imagineers took family vacations adding one-of-a-kind entertainment and innovative “firsts” from bow to stern.

The Disney Wish will have AquaMouse, the first Disney attraction at sea aboard the Disney Wish. There will also be “Swim”-finity and beyond in a new Toy Story-themed waterplay district for the little ones. And for the foodies in the family, there are three brand-new family restaurants on board Disney Cruise Line. The Disney Wish sails its maiden voyage on July 14, followed by three- and four-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from Port Canaveral, Florida.

AquaMouse – First Disney attraction at sea aboard the Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line takes fun in the sun to the next level on the Disney Wish with the debut of AquaMouse, a brand-new family water attraction that will bring to life the adventures of “The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse” animated shorts like never before. Additionally, three themed districts offer fun water features, quick and casual dining options, and dedicated space for families, children and adults to relax and soak up the sun.

Complete with show scenes, lighting, special effects, and splashtacular surprises, this first-of-its-kind water ride sends guests on a fun family adventure through 760 feet of winding tubes suspended high above the upper decks.

“Swim”-finity and beyond in a new Toy Story-themed waterplay district

Children can have a tub-full of fun in the Toy Story Splash Zone, a fantastic water playground where Woody, Buzz and friends are adorably reimagined as larger-than-life rubber bath toys, moving and spraying water at kids’ whim. Inspired by the Disney and Pixar short “Partysaurus Rex,” this bathtub-themed splash zone combines the Old West of Woody’s Roundup with the intergalactic world of Buzz Lightyear, featuring two toddler-sized slides and pop jets, geysers and bubblers galore.

Three Brand-New Family Restaurants on the Disney Wish

With a debut of three brand-new family restaurants, the Disney Wish will take guests on a remarkable culinary journey to an enchanted “Frozen” kingdom, an Avengers technology showcase and the golden age of Hollywood.

Arendelle, A Frozen Dining Adventure

Arendelle, A Frozen Dining Adventure

Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure is Disney’s first “Frozen”-themed theatrical dining experience, bringing the kingdom of Arendelle to life through immersive live entertainment — featuring favourite characters like Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf — and world-class cuisine infused with Nordic influences. Families are invited to attend a royal engagement party for Queen Anna and Kristoff, picking up the story where Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” left off.

Disney Wish Worlds of Marvel

Disney Wish Worlds of Marvel

Worlds of Marvel is the first Marvel cinematic dining adventure, where guests play an interactive role in an action-packed Avengers mission unfolding around them, complete with a worldly menu inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Avengers: Quantum Encounter” follows Ant-Man and The Wasp as they embark on their first public speaking engagement on behalf of the Avengers. Every table at Worlds of Marvel features an interactive Quantum Core, a brand-new device that can cause objects to shrink and grow remotely. Guests assist Ant-Man and The Wasp as they attempt some small-scale trials, perhaps shrinking oversized luggage for easy stateroom storage.

Named for the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, 1923 is an elegant celebration of the company’s legacy, paying homage to the golden age of animation and offering a tasteful tribute to its Californian heritage.

Combining classic Hollywood glamour with a dash of Disney whimsy, 1923 features two lavishly appointed dining rooms, aptly named for the men behind the magic of the original film studio — Walt and Roy Disney. The rooms are adorned with more than 1,000 drawings, props and other tools of the trade, providing an inside look at the evolution of Disney animation from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” to “Frozen 2.”

Disney Wish

Disney Wish

The luxury hospitality group Aman Resorts will launch Sama – their first luxury yacht. Inspired by Aman’s eastern heritage and design philosophy, the all-suite Sama will cruise the seas of Arabia, offering guests an up-close and personal experience of some of the world’s most underrated coastlines. From luxurious accommodation and amenities to unrivalled service and unforgettable excursions ashore, this is one holiday you’ll never forget.

Aman’s Luxury Yacht in Arabia – Sama

The launch of Sama in 2025 results from a joint venture between Aman and Cruise Saudi, the driver of the cruise sector in Saudi Arabia. This new luxury yacht will allow travellers to explore the waters of Saudi Arabia in luxury and comfort. The word ‘Sama’ translates to ‘tranquillity’ in Sanskrit, a water abode that Aman plans to create in the Arabian Sea.

A first of its kind motor yacht for Aman, this vessel is planned to be 183 m (600ft) and will feature 50 luxury suites, all with their own balconies. The yacht will embody the elements of privacy, space and impeccable service that Aman has come to represent.

The yacht will have an informal all-day restaurant, international dining options, a club and lounge, the essential Aman Spa with a Japanese garden, two helipads and a Beach Club. For all practical purposes, this luxury yacht will be similar to a boutique hotel at sea.

Commented Fawaz Farooqui, MD, Cruise Saudi, ‘The signing of this partnership adds a new layer to Cruise Saudi’s offering and is testament to the unique tourism experience that is exploring Saudi by sea, as well as demonstrating Cruise Saudi’s commitment to growing and expanding the cruise industry in Saudi. We aspire to further collaboration with Aman that will bring additional ultra-luxury experiences at sea.’

Aman’s Luxurious Yachts

Beyond hotels, Aman has been operating Amandira, its custom-built 52-meter two-masted Phinisi, a traditional Indonesian sailing vessel, in the Flores Sea since 2015, exploring the Raja Ampat region of the archipelago. The sail and motor powered phinisi is equipped with five cabins, a crew of 14, including a private chef, waiter and massage therapist.

Aman had previously operated Amanikan (now Mahodaya) – a 32 meter, three cabin traditional yacht in Indonesia, designed to accommodate six guests and ten crew, including a cruise director, chef and dive guide. Built in 2009 with a draft of 2.1meter and a cruise speed of 8 knots, Amanikan was a perfect yacht to get up close and explore the bays and coves of the Indonesian Archipelago.

The romance of the Italian Riviera viewed from the lounge chair on the deck of a luxury yacht, the star-studded evening Mediterranean sky, twinkling lights from the cliff-hugging towns dotted along the coast and a Three Michelin Star Chef on board recreating his signature dishes and sparking joy & conversation among an intimate group of ten – the makings of an eventful, fun and memorable experience.

The ever-energetic and charismatic Chef Massimo Bottura, who turned storytelling into an edible art form at his restaurant Osteria Francescana, a three-Michelin-star restaurant based in Modena, partners with Claus Thottrup’s Satori, a luxurious 41.5m sailing yacht to offer this ultimate luxury holiday experience for the 2021 and 2022 season.

“It will be the story of Osteria Francescana but told in an unprecedented setting. The flavours, the rhythm and the mood of the menu will be dialoguing with that of Satori and its environment, giving life to a whole new story. We want to give people the chance to immerse themselves in a unique setting, surrounded by the sea and share an unforgettable culinary journey,” explained Chef Massimo Bottura.

“Surprising flavours and personal stories will meet unexpected moments of joy and laughter to create a symphony of emotions. It isn’t only about eating and drinking but what you take with you after the meal is over – the long-lasting memories of time shared around a table and a new understanding of a cuisine, in this case, Italian and Emilian, seen through my eyes, with a touch of irony, a nod to contemporary art as well as my childhood memories,” he said.

Chef Massimo Bottura elaborated on the inspirations behind his creations and the essence of his menu. “The menu will bring guests on a culinary journey through the adventures of Osteria Francescana in the past 26 years, through the recipes, memories and stories that brought us where we are today. The journey always starts from our region and continues to discover the culinary richness of the whole Italian peninsula, with its infinite variety of landscapes, flavours and traditions, also taking some quick stops around the world. It is a journey of memories and emotions.”

“Guests will embark on the Satori boat and have the chance to taste Oops! I dropped the lemon tart, the iconic dessert that celebrates the contrasting soul of the South of Italy, immersed in incredible natural settings,” he said.

More than ever, luxury cruise fans are eager to return to sailing – provided all the safety measures have been put in place. For destinations far away from cities, how about exploring the shoreland of Iceland in a luxurious cruise?

The French cruise operator Ponant, a world leader in luxury expeditions, is all set to resume cruising. Starting from July till August 2020, Ponant is launching a series of all-new expedition cruises circumnavigating Iceland. Each cruise will start and conclude in Reykjavik. The seven voyages will showcase the brand-new Explorer Class luxury expedition ship, Le Bellot – the fifth in a series of six new Explorer class ships.

The 180-guest Le Bellot will explore the coast and shoreline of Iceland during 7-night itineraries revealing the dramatic glaciers, fjords, waterfalls, and volcanoes of the mythic Nordic island nation.

Highlights of this Icelandic itinerary include Vatnajökull National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and crossing the Arctic Circle to observe whales, orcas, seals, and Atlantic puffins that make up some of the wildlife in this remote region.

A team of naturalist guides will be on board to share their knowledge of the fauna and flora of the regions visited. The expedition will also include zodiac outings, hikes, volcanic beaches, rugged cliffs, glaciers, icebergs, and natural warm water springs.

Realising the need to be ecologically responsible, Le Bellot represents a new generation of cruise ships featuring sophisticated technology and refined design. Le Bellot comes with only 92 staterooms and suites, all with a balcony or a private terrace.

Inspired by Jules Verne, the ship is equipped with a multisensory lounge that enables guests to comfortably experience the surrounding subaquatic world to enjoying a relaxed environment onboard, the luxurious ship offers a civilised way for guests to explore remarkably remote destinations in comfort and style.

Safety First: Sail with Confidence

To successfully prepare to sail back and resume services, Ponant has collaborated with the Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire (IHU) Méditerranée Infection of Marseilles, one of the world’s leading centres in the field of infectious diseases, as well as with the Battalion of Marine Firemen of Marseilles and Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification (TIC).

The fleet is equipped with high-level hospitals aboard the ships, made up of a state-of-the-art medical infrastructure (radiology, biology and even resuscitation devices, etc.) that goes beyond all current touristic standards. An expert medical team made up of at least one doctor and a nurse, available around the clock, are present in these hospitals.

Ponant relies on the provision and maintenance of a “Covid-Safe” area around its ships, a hermetic sanitary bubble, thanks to the rollout of three layers of shields: stringent onboard access conditions, rigorous sanitary protocols throughout the cruise as well as daily checks (guests, equipment, ships). It includes the implementation of a health check for 100% of the people on board (guests and crew members) and filtering and disinfection at boarding in a guest circuit that has been entirely redesigned for before, during and after the cruise.

In addition, upon arrival at the airport in Iceland, all passengers must take a PCR serology test and obtain a negative result to gain access to the vessel. ◼
